EMALOU GEORGE
President, Volunteer Board of Directors, Maryvale Hospital

For the past 60 years, Emalou George has volunteered with various organizations, with five of those years spent at Maryvale Hospital. A member of the Maryvale community herself, George says she volunteers at the hospital due to its proximity, but also because of the positive experiences she has had there. She received a  Healthcare Volunteer Award, and was featured in the March issue of Arizona Business Magazine. The award was presented at a ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Emalou is president of the hospital's Volunteer Board of Directors. Her work as a volunteer includes manning the hospital's information desk, where she answers a multitude of questions from visitors and escorts visitors to their requested distinations. She also helps escort patients to different areas of the hospital and makes coffee each morning for visitors. In addition, she attends meetings and conventions held by the Association of Arizona Healthcare Volunteers and represents the hospital's volunteers at various health fairs throughout the community.

EDNA FERRIS
Carondelet St. Mary's Auxiliary - Tucson

After more than 25 years volunteering at the St. Mary's Auxiliary Thrift Shop, Edna Ferris, is a familiar face to many!
The store raises money for Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital , whichis part of the Carondelet Health Network. Last year it raised around $63,000. In addition to her numerous other tasks at the store, Edna also does the bookkeeping.
Roger Coonts, DVS for St. Mary's St. Joseph's and Tucson Heart hospitals, said : "On behalf of Carondelet, we definitely appreciate Edna's commitment, her work. Her kindness and her generous, helpful spirit have been invaluable in cementing this together and making it work."
After more than two decades, she still recalls the exact date she began volunteering at the thrift store - May 2, 1983. Before that she volunteered at the hospital for a short time. Before volunteering, she cared for her ill husband, and after his death, she "needed something to do".
Edna is one of 550 or so Carondelet volunteers in Southern Arizona. They range in age from 14 - 91, the majorityof them being more than 50 years old.
The thrift store deponds on volunteers, and Edna says she likes being there. "I enjoy working here. I have good co-workers and I have good customers. Every one is nice, so I just enjoy being with the people, That's all!."
